The Toddler Room at Wonder years creche provides a warm & caring environment for Toddlers aged between 1.5 years & 3 years old approx. Michelle H is the Toddler Rroom Leader for this group with Martina assisting in the mornings and Ciara in the afternoons. We offer all children the opportunity to learn and explore at their own pace and developmental stages. We have ample space inside and outside for them to choose activities and be confident and competent learners. Our activities each day will focus on developing the following skills:

  • Gross motor skills such as, walking, running & climbing.
  • Fine motor skills such as, feeding themselves, drawing & coloring.
  • Sensory skills such as seeing, hearing, tasting, touching, & smelling.
  • Language skills such as, saying single words, then sentences & asking questions.
  • Social skills such as, playing/sharing with others, taking turns &imaginary play.

Some of our favourite activities include singing songs/nursery rhymes, reading books, puppet shows, building blocks, playdoh, sensory play with pasta/ oats etc, kitchen and home corner. Outdoor play with cars, toys, paint brushes, shovels and going down the ‘big’ slide!

We like to plant our own flowers in autumn, and we water them during summer months and watch them grow! We have several bird feeders which we refill regularly, and the toddlers love to watch all the different types of birds who come for a nibble.

We have a separate cosy sleep room with relaxing sleep sounds where the toddlers can have a nap throughout the day. With assistance, the toddlers are encouraged to wash their own hands, get their drink, and pick a chair to sit on at the table for mealtimes. We like to eat our meals together as much as possible as this is an important learning experience that all toddlers enjoy.

We speak with parents daily to keep lines of communication open with regards to their child and their routine. Each child has their own learning journal scrapbook which keeps a record of their artwork, colouring, learning stories and photos. Parents are encouraged to look at them throughout the year and make suggestions, and at the end of the year the learning journal is given to parents to keep and cherish the memories of their child’s learning adventures.
